Ghost Heart

When something has been torn out of you
The ragged edges take years to heal
Assuming they ever do
You can't fix something that isn't there
You can't find truth in silence
And when you don't know
If the angel who carries your heart
Is even alive or dead
The ghost pain goes on
No anesthetic
No cure
Not even amputation
Just lying awake on long empty nights
With nothing but nostalgia
And an itch that there's no way to scratch
